Roots. We all have them though they are hidden beneath the surface of our lives. Oddly, we seldom think about our roots. Where did you come from? What is the source of your daily refreshment, renewal, and spiritual growth as a human? Grapes begin as rootstock. Without good roots, there will never be a harvest. St Paul knew the vital place of roots when he writes, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6-7). When our lives are rooted in Christ, we will be built up in him, strengthened daily, and overflowing with such good fruit as thankfulness.
